Commitment to the Abingdon Eagles

We have a coaching team in place that is mentored by an experienced Head Coach and together we look at all the requirements to support and develop the club as a whole.

This means that all the coaching team commit their time and experience and knowledge to make this happen. Abingdon Eagles recognise this level of commitment to the club as a valuable asset and therefore wish to protect that investment in time and knowledge for all involved.

Part of this protection is to acknowledge that this commitment to the club must be reciprocated from players and ultimately their parents.

Therefore, we ask that while all players are regularly training with Abingdon Eagles coaches and registered to Abingdon Eagles that they show the same level of commitment and remain loyal to their coaches and club and only play for Abingdon Eagles in local or regional or national competition.

As a club we will always endeavour to provide high quality coaching at all levels (social, developing or progressing) and this will be backed up with competition where applicable for all players that wish to play competitively.

There may, however, be circumstances where a player believes that this does not cover their personal playing requirements or a coach believes that working with another club may be appropriate.

Eagles policy on playing competitively for other clubs is as follows:

A player may play for another club as long as the following circumstances are met:

  • Abingdon Eagles does not have representation at the level offered by the other club
  • The player’s coach discusses the requirements with the player and gives permission to play with the other club
  • Abingdon Eagles has a player sharing agreement in place with the other club
  • Other club is affiliated to Oxfordshire Basketball Association or other recognised regional association and also Basketball England.

This policy has been established to ensure that there is appropriate protection in place for the player with regards to insurance and also professionalism from all clubs involved in line with Basketball England guidelines.

If a player does not think they can work within Abingdon Eagle’s policy and wishes to play for another club, we suggest that the player resigns from Abingdon Eagles and re-registers their commitment with the alternative club and coaching team.
