but great to play with our new team mates

Coach Chris reports:
Worcester Bears brought a strong team for the U18's on Sunday and it was clear from their warmup and sponsorship (McDonalds) that they are a well organised and drilled team.

Coach Chris was leading (huge thanks to Coach Andy for assistance) in preparation for the first NL game next week with Head Coach Steve in an advisory capacity at the end of the bench. We had one or two niggles with injured payers out ( Harry & Henry) and some players carrying minor injuries and also a bit late.

But we started well in a tight game with Harry Sellick putting in a great first quarter performance particularly on offence, both driving to the hoop and a nice jump shot. At the end of the first we were down15-17 and it was tight.

The game ebbed and flowed in the 2nd and we went in at half time down by 5. We bedded in new players (Donnell, Gerry and Harvey) with Harvey making some great blocks and Gerry with steals and good shooting from the 3 point line in the second quarter to keep it close at half time. Throughout the game we tried to give everyone a run in this pre-season friendly.
In the second half we gave up some easy drives when playing a box and their two big guys made us pay so we decided to go to the D which helped us in the first half but their coach had worked it out by then.

We slightly compounded the situation at the end with some basic errors and a look at the stats show we didn't have a good day from the free throw line making just one of nine but we have a good team with even scoring and very active hands on D.

Tough loss against a tall and skilled side but a workout that we needed.

Stay fit and hungry for next Sat boys when the real test starts away at Reading in the first league game of the season.
