2023 - 24 Season with Coach Andy Hart

The National League (NL) U16s went into the new season with a mix of second year players and players rising from the U14s.

To integrate and develop a team bond, we entered the Your Basketball League (YBL) mini summer league which we won. This was a great way for all the players to get to know each other and gave us confidence going in to the national league season.

Our first league game was away at 'Bracknell Cobras 1', and ended with the Eagles taking the points after the home coach was ejected with 20 seconds to go of the fourth quarter. This win would prove crucial to our season.

After 'Bracknell 1', we played our nearest rivals 'Oxford Hoops', and ran out comfortable winners.

Two narrow defeats followed, but then we won three in a row to leave us in a good position in the table.

A narrow 3pt defeat to Woking and a big defeat to 'Bracknell Cobras 1' before Christmas meant that if the team wanted to finish second overall, they were only allowed one defeat.

The boys played some of their best basketball in games against 'Bracknell Cobras 2', 'Reading Rockets' and in the game of the season away to 'Farnborough Phantoms' where we beat a very strong side 94 - 78.

Three more wins followed before a defeat to 'Woking Blackhawks', but wins in our last two games meant that we finished the league season in second place, a terrific achievement for the team.

There were memorable performances all season with Ben Hart, Henry Fletcher and Oscar Barnes getting 'double doubles' (when a player in a game accumulates a double-digit total in two of five statistical categories—points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots); Jack Sellick's passing was key to fast breaks and all other players contributing to a fantastic season.
