U16s also triumphant, while U18 Men and Women had tough games

Our U14NL boys went into their first National League season with much trepidation, but two games in they are our only NL team with a 100% record - well done boys. Here Coach Andy tells us abut their second win.
"The headline is the U14s won the game at London Warriors 48-73. At times the play was exceptional and at other times we looked like a team that hadn't played a competitive game for 5 weeks. With only 8 players available, everyone got decent court time. There was some excellent inter play between Lorenzo and Sam with the latter scoring many points from Lorenzo's passes. Matty looked to exploit the spaces behind his defender and drive to basket.
Everyone contributed to a good win, but Coach's notes for training is extensive as we look to improve ahead of a trip to local rivals Oxford Hoops."

Coach Steve looks at the U16 game vs Surrey Rams II "The U16s were seeking their second win of the season on Saturday against Surrey rams II. The team welcomed back both Alex and French from injury.

The Eagles got off to a good start with French leading the scoring quickly followed by Lyran, Oli and Harry. 19 - 12 at the end of the first quarter, it appeared this would be an easy win. However, sport is never straight forward and, whilst looking the much better team, the Eagles struggled to break down the Rams constant hussle. Disappointingly, this led to some very scrappy play and meant the game deteriorated in quality. Rather than playing their usual team basketball, the Eagles reverted to more individual play and this made for a frustrating afternoon. The Eagles won the first 3 quarters but despite this, the Rams came back at the Eagles in the 4th. After the Eagles lost Harry M to injury and it took some cool heads from Alex and Oli, back in off the bench, to steady the ship and get us over the line.
Final score 75-59. Well done Eagles - a win is a win. However, one cannot help but feel this margin should have been wider. The Eagles will need to play team basketball and trust one another more to beat some of the better teams in the league. They have shown previously they can do this, and this is what we will be working on in the coming weeks. We wish Harry a speedy return to the team."

An unbeaten Thames Valley Cavaliers came to play the U18s on Saturday. Coach Chris reports: "Sometimes you win even when you lose.
We went down 73 - 89 against the Thames Valley Cavaliers who are likely league winners but we gave them a hell of a shock. At half time we were 25 - 54 down but after some fantastic pressure D and shooting from the bench followed up by a strong first 5 finish, we won both quarters in the second half in a brilliant team performance to leave the court with a huge sense of pride. Coach Steve and I threw every type of D we could at a one dimensional TVC and the boys understood everything we asked and executed it amazingly well.
Well done Sam Hart top scoring with 16. We're not scared of top of the League Surrey Rams, who we take on next week!"

And last, but not least, our U18 Women's team who took on the Hounslow Hawks. Coach Hayley tells us how it went: "Our U18 Women had a tough afternoon against Hounslow Hawks. Despite playing in ‘baby pink’ kit, the Hawks were ferocious, playing tough, full court defence from start to finish. The Eagles struggled to keep hold of the ball and to find any sort momentum in the first half. The third was much better, with the Eagles breaking the press and getting a run of fast breaks, playing some really great transition basketball. Unfortunately, we just couldn’t get enough of our shots to sink whilst the Hawks' point guard swished 3s from three feet behind the 3-point line. Lots to take to training in the next few weeks, but really proud of the way the girls conducted themselves and battled to the end. Mixed emotions from everyone as we welcomed back Willow and Rosie, but bid a fond farewell to Misti" and Coach Christie.
