This is the standard level of coaching qualification for all club coaches at local level. The award gives a general overview of all aspects of basketball, and a basic introduction to sports coaching. Learners can expect to cover the following:

Roles and responsibilities of the coach
The coaching process (plan, do, review)
Individual fundamentals
Team fundamentals
Developing team play
Sports science
Moments of the Game (Attack and Defence)

Successful achievement of this course allows learners to coach independently, leading an age group/team including running training sessions to competing in games and leagues.

Who is the course for?

This course is specifically for individuals who have experience of coaching and are operating in a club environment.

Learner eligibility

Learners must:

Be at least 18 years of age
Hold a level 1 basketball coach award*
Have access to a laptop/tablet, good Wi-Fi and microphone to participate in virtual classroom sessions. Any special learning requirements must be made clear at the registration process

*If learners do not hold a Basketball England level 1 award but meet the remaining eligibility criteria identified above, they can be accepted onto the course.
