If grit and determination could win basketball games, then both our U16 and U14 National League teams would have romped to victory on Saturday.

However, it was not to be and both posted losses after hard fought games.

The U14s had a tremendous first quarter and it may have looked like victory was in the bag. However, the Worcester Bears employed their game tactics and slowly but surely in the 2nd and 3rd quarters came back basket after basket. The Eagles suffered from our game changers having fallen foul of fouls and Coach Steve had to play tactically to ensure they finished on court.

There were some fabulous performances from all members of the team and the closing few minutes had supporters from both sides on their feet! The games ended 66-68 to the Worcester Bears. Watch out for the re-match!

The U16s were up against the Milton Keynes Trojans team that boasted one England player and 2 more members of the South of England team! But don’t forget we have our own Akira Harry, who also plays for South!

We knew it would be hard against the height and strength of the Trojans, but the boys came out fighting and we took the first points the game. However, the Trojan’s physicality dominated at both ends but again our set pieces had them regularly outplayed. Talking to their parents at half-time we were told that it was a much harder game than they were expecting. Way to go Eagles! Final score was 42-74.

So, home kits are washed and we are waiting next Saturday’s challenges. The U14s at the Coventry Tornadoes and the U16s at East Hertfordshire Royals II.
